The Game
Project Emily is a story driven sidescroller about the life and death of the main character ”Emily”. The game is about her journey to the afterlife, fighting her inner demons along the way to make peace with her death.
Emily is beaten at home and runs away. While running, she falls though the rotten planks of an old bridge, and falls into a deep dark forest.
From here the game starts. Emily meets an old man who gives her tips on how to get out of the woods, and has to solve puzzles and fight boss monsters to get ‘out’.

The bosses in the game will be artistic representations of Emily’s inner struggles. Depression, a big tar lake that seems to go on endlessly, dragging her down and slowly drowning her if you try to go though alone. Her parents, a morphed monster that not only fights Emily, but also with itself.
I wanted to make the player feel as helpless as Emily herself. So every boss will have to be beaten via a puzzle, because she cannot physically fight back.
I also wanted to make Emily the only big source of light, to really drive home how alone and isolated she feels.
